History of Saint Nichols Academy

The Saint Nichols Academy has been in existence in the town of Macabebe for many years. It is the only Catholic academic institution in the town of Macabebe and is supervised by the Archbishop of the City of San Fernando, Pampanga.

Rev. Fr. Genaro Sazon founded the parochial school in 1947 and named it Auxilium Christianorum. The RVM sisters were tasked to supervise the school. It was temporarily closed from 1954 to 1974. In 1975, the school was reopened by Sor. Maria Encarnacion T. Rodriguez of the Handmaids of our Lady of the Sacred Heart (HOLSH) with a new name – Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School. The school offered complete pre-elementary and elementary course and classes were housed in the school buildings beside the parish church.

Msgr. Anastacio Silvestre, a native of San Vicente, Macabebe, was the first parish priest to assume the position of school director. With the new administration, the name of the school was changed to Saint Nichols Parish School, in honor of the patron saint of the town – San Nicholas de Tolentino.

When Msgr. Anastacio Silvestre was transferred to another parish, Msgr. Gregorio S. Torres took over the parish and the school as well. Being an experienced school director, Msgr. Torres was able to introduce many significant changes in the supervision of the school. He conceived and implemented the granting of full scholarship to poor but deserving students of the town. His greatest achievement as a school director was the Government Recognition granted to the school on February 21, 1989; No. E-03-S91 for Pre-Elementary and No. E-04-S91 for Elementary Course.

In 1995, the Archdiocese of San Fernando effected a reshuffle in the pastoral assignments of the parish priests in the province. As expected another change in the school administration took place. A young energetic priest and an equally-experienced school administrator in the person of Rev. Fr. Jose E. David was assigned in the parish on June 29, 1995. Under his administration, Fr. David pursued the mission-vision to provide quality Catholic education to the students. As part of the expansion program, the school started to offer courses in the secondary level effective School Year 1996-1997. With this welcome development, the name of the school was changed to Saint Nichols Academy.

Finally, on April 12, 1999, Government Recognition No. S-004, S, 1999 for the complete four-year Secondary Course was granted to the school.

Presently, the school is located within the parish church lot of Macabebe, Pampanga. The parish church is in front of the town’s municipal hall.

THANK YOU FOR THE DISCIPLINE

Nobody liked Mr. Catacutan. Myself included. He was the "terror" in our school and everyone hated his classes. He made us work hard over our lessons, sweat over a deskload of assignments and suffer in agony over difficult exams.

During classes he wanted us to listen, really listen, whenever he was lecturing. He disliked talking when he was speaking and we had to come to class prepared for the lesson because he might suddenly ask anyone of us to recite.

And so, typical students that we are, we rebelled. Although we were quiet and studious in class, we would make faces behind his back, talk about him when he was not around, call him names, laugh at his mannerisms.

After a year when we finally passed his subject, we all heaved a sigh of relief and vowed to forget him. And we moved on to higher things.

But later we found out a very strange thing.
Whenever another teacher was lecturing, we would automatically shut up and listen. We could now handle many assignments because we had become used to them. We knew how to study for difficult exams and how to prepare for class discussions, because it had become quite natural for us to do so. Because of Mr. Catacutan.

Sometimes we think of going back to Mr. Catacutan to THANK HIM FOR GIVING US SOMETHING THAT WOULD HELP US NOT ONLY IN OUR STUDIES BUT IN LIFE...
